New Mexico is an ideal place for doing bioalgal research because of the constant sunshine and wide open spaces.
There are a lot of ways to grow algae, and lots of different types of algae to grow. The challenge is to make it cheap to grow algae so that it will cost less than other types of fuel.
The hardest part of growing algae in New Mexico is the availability of water. Scientists are working on this problem right now. They are researching ways that grow algae in recycled wastewater or in giant plastic bags to trap the water so that it doesn’t evaporate away.
